The Parallel Worlds

For the third edition of Chiang Mai Photo Festival (CMPF), we are proud to present our main exhibition, titled Parallel Worlds. In the digital era, we appear to be more closely connected than ever before. But the digital realm has also created sharper divisions amongst people. While we seem more willing to post and share our lives, the urgency to comment and the judge has also increased.

Taking the form of a physical exhibition at Chiang Mai University (CMU) Art Center, Parallel Worlds offers a slower way to encounter the worlds that we inhabit. It aims to recognize the complexity that exists within human experiences.

Parallel Worlds also provides a snapshot of concerns and obsessions that interest image-makers across the globe. The CMPF co-curators invited educators from 29 institutions to each nominate one graduating student or a recent alumnus to respond to the theme of Parallel Worlds. In this way, Parallel Worlds captures the current possibilities of photography, seen through the works of energetic auteurs with important things to say. We hope to make space for conversations and even disagreements in Parallel Worlds.

Parallel Worlds features image-makers representing institutions from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos, Singapore, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, China, United Kingdom, Poland, Switzerland and the USA. Many of the participating image-makers and educators will be present during the opening.

The Parallel Worldsโลกที่เหลื่อมซ้อน

สำหรับเทศกาลภาพถ่ายเชียงใหม่ครั้งที่สาม (CMPF) เราภูมิใจนำเสนอ "The Parallel Worlds - โลกที่เหลื่อมซ้อน" ในยุคดิจิตอลเราต่างดูเหมือนเชื่อมต่ออย่างชิดใกล้กว่าที่เคยเป็นมา แต่บนอาณาจักรแห่งดิจิตอลได้สร้างมุมมองที่คมชัดขึ้นในหมู่ผู้คน เพราะขณะที่พวกเราดูเสมือนประหนึ่งเต็มใจที่จะนำเสนอและแชร์เรื่องราวชีวิตของเรามากขึ้น ทว่าความเร่งด่วนทางความคิด ความเห็น และการตัดสินก็ต้องมากขึ้นเช่นกัน

ขณะที่นิทรรศการ (กายภาพ) ที่หอศิลป์ฯ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ นิทรรศการ "โลกที่เหลื่อมซ้อน" ยังคงนำเสนอในวิถีทางที่ "ช้าลง" ในการเผชิญหน้ากับโลกความเป็นจริง จุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อรับรู้ถึงความซับซ้อน บนความแตกต่างทีทว่ามีความละม้ายคล้ายเหมือนที่มีอยู่จริงในประสบการณ์ของมนุษย์

"โลกที่เหลื่อมซ้อน" ยังนำเสนอภาพรวมของความกังวล และความหลงไหลที่ตกตะกอนผ่านมุมมองศิลปินภาพถ่ายหน้าใหม่จากทั่วโลก เทศกาลภาพถ่ายเชียงใหม่ครั้งที่ 3 จัดแสดงผลงานศิลปินรุ่นใหม่จาก 29 สถาบันศิลปะชั้นนำจากทั่วทุกมุมโลก ภาพความเป็นไปได้ในปัจจุบันของการถ่ายภาพที่เห็นผ่านผลงานที่เต็มไปด้วยพลัง เพื่อแสดงถึงสาระสำคัญที่ควรจะบอกเล่า

เทศกาลภาพถ่ายนานาชาติเชียงใหม่หวังว่า เราจะเป็นให้พื้นที่แห่งโอกาส และเวทีสำหรับการสนทนา ความจริงและความลวง แม้กระทั่งความขัดแย้ง ทั้งโลกของความจริงและในโลกคู่ขนาน

The Parallel Worlds - โลกที่เหลื่อมซ้อน มีตัวแทนของสถาบันศิลปะชั้นนำ 29 แห่ง ประกอบด้วยไทย, อินโดนีเซีย, เวียดนาม, ฟิลิปปินส์, ลาว, สิงคโปร์, บังคลาเทศ, ฮ่องกง, ไต้หวัน, เกาหลีใต้, ญี่ปุ่น, จีน, สหราชอาณาจักร, โปแลนด์, สวิตเซอร์แลนด์ และสหรัฐอเมริกา
