Asian Culture Station ขอเชิญชวนทุกท่านเข้าร่วมการสัมมนา “งานภัณฑารักษ์ในเอเชีย” ที่จัดขึ้นเพื่อเพิ่มพูนความรู้ความเข้าใจต่องานของภัณฑารักษ์ให้กับผู้ร่วมกิจกรรม ไม่ว่าจะเป็น ศิลปิน ภัณฑารักษ์รุ่นเยาว์ นักจัดการศิลปะ หรือผู้มีอาชีพอื่นๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับศิลปะ โดยเราได้เชิญภัณฑารักษ์มืออาชีพจาก สหราชอาณาจักร สิงคโปร์ และญี่ปุ่น มาเป็นวิทยากร

เชียงใหม่ เมืองวัฒนธรรมที่โดดเด่นแห่งหนึ่งของเอเชียแห่งนี้ยังมีคนทำงานภัณฑารักษ์อยู่น้อยมาก ความแพร่หลายของความรู้ภาคปฏิบัติในงานของอาชีพนี้จึงไม่สมดุลกับความรู้ในการผลิตงานศิลปะ และส่งผลให้งานด้านภัณฑารักษ์ไม่สามารถตอบสนองศิลปะได้อย่างหลากหลาย จนบางครั้งศิลปินหรือผู้ทำงานในด้านที่ใกล้เคียงต้องผันตัวมาทำงานด้านนี้ทดแทนกันไป

ผู้ชมทั่วไปไม่เคยแน่ใจได้ว่าบทบาทและหน้าที่ของภัณฑารักษ์นั้นคืออะไรกันแน่? การสัมมนาครั้งนี้จึงมุ่งหวังที่จะลดช่องว่างทางความเข้าใจนี้ และต่อเติมความเป็นไปได้ให้งานภาคปฏิบัติของภัณฑารักษ์เป็นรูปเป็นร่างและแข็งแกร่งขึ้น นอกจากนี้ เรายังใช้โอกาสจากการสัมมนามาจัดกิจกรรมให้ศิลปินและคนทำงานด้านศิลปะเข้ารับฟังความคิดเห็นต่องานของพวกเขาจากเหล่าวิทยากรที่เป็นภัณฑารักษ์มากประสบการณ์กันด้วย โดยเราจะเปิดให้ผู้ที่ทำงานศิลปะมาไม่ต่ำกว่า 3 ปี สมัครเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมนี้กัน

การสัมมนาจะเป็นการบรรยายเพื่อนำเสนอกรณีศึกษาจากการทำงานของพวกเขา การเสวนาตามประเด็น และการฉายหนังที่จัดโปรแกรมโดยภัณฑารักษ์สายภาพยนตร์ ส่วนในวันสุดท้ายนั้นก็จะเปิดโอกาสให้ศิลปินและคนทำงานด้านศิลปะที่ต้องการรับรู้มุมมองต่องานของตนได้พบปะพูดคุยกับภัณฑารักษ์รับเชิญกันแบบตัวต่อตัว โดยจะจับคู่จากการพิจารณาแฟ้มงาน (portfolio) และสายงานให้เข้ากัน งานนี้เหมาะกับคนทำงานรุ่นเยาว์ที่ต้องการพัฒนาความสามารถ จนไปถึงผู้เชี่ยวชาญที่ต้องการแลกเปลี่ยนความเห็น กับคนสายงานทางด้านศิลปะร่วมสมัย ศิลปะสื่อ ภาพยนตร์ และศิลปะการแสดง

 

※ กิจกรรมนี้เปิดให้ผู้สนใจทั่วไปเข้าร่วมได้ ยกเว้น การพบภัณฑารักษ์แบบตัวต่อตัวในวันที่ 17 กรกฏานั้น ต้องสมัครล่วงหน้า (ใบสมัคร Open Call: bit.ly/2s9TV7J) หมดเขตรับสมัคร วันที่ 30 มิถุนายน 2560 Asian Culture Station จะแจ้งผลการสมัครให้ทราบทางอีเมลภายในวันที่ 5 กรกฎาคม 2560

Asian Culture Station is delighted to invite you to a symposium on “Curator Practice in Asia”. The event aims to raise understanding of how curators work in Asia to general audiences including artists, young curators, art managers and people who with art-related careers. The invited curators are from the UK, the Philippines, Singapore and Japan. (Please read curators’ biographies below for more details)

 

As one of the top cultural cities in Asia, Chiang Mai has quite a limited number of curators, thus resulting in less practical knowledge of this profession in comparison to the art production/presentation knowledge. A small number of curators also lead to low variety of practice. Artists or practitioners from other related careers are occasionally obliged to act as curator to substitute for what we are lacking.

 

The confusion regarding the role of curator and its practice among the general audiences occurs from time to time. The symposium hopes to bridge the gap of this requiring role and give a wider range of possibilities of how the practice can form and grow well. Besides, we would like to take this opportunity for local artists/art practitioners to hear a reflection on their art practice from invited experienced curators. We encourage artists/art practitioners who have at least 3 years experience in the field to apply for an open call.

 

The symposium consists of curator presentations by using case studies from their practices, panel discussion by topics, and film screening program (by a film curator). In addition, on the last day, there will be an open opportunity for artists and art practitioners who would like to get reflection on their work to have an exclusive one-on-one meeting with invited curators. The selection criteria for this one-on-one meeting are the quality of the applicant’s portfolio and its relevance to the expertise of invited curators.

 

We encourage applicants who seek to improve their practice in the area of contemporary fine arts, media arts, film and performance to apply.

 

※ This event is free of charge and open to the public except the one-on-one meeting on the July 17, 2017 which need to apply in advance. There will be a total of 5 sessions, each taking 30 minutes for a one-on-one meeting. From a maximum of 20 selected artists/ art practitioners, the applicant will get to meet 1 of the 4 featured curators with similar practice. The participants can take this opportunity to present their work, ask for advice in order to improve their practice, or seek to achieve their specific goals. We encourage artists/art practitioners who have at least 3 years of experience in the field to apply.
