Chiang Mai Art Conversation ยินดีเสนอ การสนทนากับ Frank Tang และ Alice Wong จากฮ่องกง Frank เป็นศิลปินทัศนศิลป์และก็เป็นภัณฑารักษ์อาวุโสอยู่ที่ Hong Kong Art Centre ส่วน Alice นั้นทำงานเป็นผู้อำนวยการสร้างศิลปะ ภัณฑารักษ์ แล้วก็ผู้อำนวยการบริหารของ soundpocket แถมยังเป็นผู้ร่วมก่อตั้งกลุ่มศิลปะ Tough Cookies ที่เน้นการเรียนรู้แบบบูรณาการในเรื่องของศิลปะด้วย พวกเขาทั้งคู่ปฏิบัติการในหลายบทบาทอยู่ในชุมชนทางวัฒนธรรมและสังคมที่พวกเขาอยู่ พวกเขาจะมาแบ่งปันประสบการณ์การทำงานด้านศิลปะในฮ่องกง รวมถึงโอกาสและอุปสรรคในวิชาชีพของพวกเขาด้วย

ฮ่องกงเป็นเมืองสำคัญที่เชื่อมต่อโลกธุรกิจระหว่างจีนกับยุโรปเสมอมา แต่อาร์ตซีนของที่นั่นเพิ่งมาเฟื่องฟูอย่างสุดขีดในช่วงต้นคริสต์ศตวรรษ 2010 เมื่อพิพิธภัณฑ์วัฒนธรรมทางสายตา M+ ได้เริ่มดำเนินโครงการจรยุทธ์ขึ้นมาหลายโครงการ (พิพิธภัณฑ์นี้กำลังอยู่ระหว่างการก่อสร้าง บนย่านวัฒนธรรมในเขตเกาลูนตะวันตก โดยมีกำหนดแล้วเสร็จในปี ค.ศ. 2019) ตามมาด้วย Art Basel ที่เปิดตัวที่ฮ่องกงเป็นครั้งแรกในปี ค.ศ. 2013 ซึ่งดึงดูดผู้คนเข้างานได้ถึงกว่า 60,000 คน เป็นเหตุให้ในปัจจุบันนี้ แกลเลอรี่ชื่อดังระดับนานาชาติในภูมิภาค และจากทวีปยุโรปกับอเมริกา ต่างก็เข้าไปตั้งสาขาในฮ่องกงกันถ้วนหน้า

แต่ในขณะที่มีเรื่องดีๆ เกิดขึ้นกับวงการศิลปะ เสรีภาพในการแสดงออกกลับเริ่มถูกรัฐบาลจีนแผ่นดินใหญ่เข้าควบคุม ก่อให้เกิดขบถทางการเมืองอย่าง “ขบวนการร่ม” (Umbrella Movement) ขึ้นมาระหว่างการประท้วงให้รัฐบาลจีนคืนประชาธิปไตยกลับมา เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2014 ด้วย

CONVERSATION #011 Working in the Arts in Hong Kong – Artist/Art Practitioner’s Perspective

Chiang Mai Art Conversation is pleased to invite you to a talk by Frank Tang and Alice Wong from Hong Kong. Frank is a visual artist who also works as Senior curatorial officer at Hong Kong Art Centre. While, Alice is a producer, curator and currently acts as an Executive Director of soundpocket. She is also Founding Member of art group Tough Cookies, dedicated to cross-disciplinary learning in the arts. They both participate in their culture and social communities in multiple roles. They will share thoughts and experiences working in the arts in Hong Kong, as well as the opportunities and struggles in their careers. 

Hong Kong has always been an important city for trading between Chinese and European markets. However Hong Kong art scene has been flourish dramatically since early 2010s when M+, a planned museum of visual culture started to activate their mobile projects. It is now still under construction in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong, which is scheduled to open in 2019. Followed by a coming of Art Basel in 2013 that presented its inaugural show in Hong Kong and attracts over 60,000 visitors. Until now all the big name international galleries in region, Europe and America can’t avoid to have a branch in Hong Kong. 

Parallel to this fortune, the freedom of expression began in control by main land China. Causing a political rebellion, the Umbrella Movement, emerged during the Hong Kong democracy protests of 2014.

Come join us for chat and learn from the couple how it is like working as an artist, art practitioner and non-profit organizations in Hong Kong’s changing climate. 

The talk will be in English and interpreted into Thai. The Q&A session will alternate between the two languages.
