การเลือกเก็บรักษาอาคารเพื่อการอนุรักษ์ให้ครอบคลุมทุกความรู้สึกนั้นเป็นเรื่องยาก โดยเฉพาะกับเมืองที่มีความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมและประวัติศาสตร์อันเข้มข้น เมื่อร้อยกว่าปีที่แล้ว โยโกฮาม่าและเชียงใหม่ได้รับผลจากลัทธิอาณานิคมในเวลาไล่เลี่ยกัน ทั้งสองเมืองได้กลายเป็นประตูด่านแรกของการรับคนต่างชาติเข้ามาพร้อมกับวิทยาการสมัยใหม่ให้กับประเทศของตน จนมาถึงยุคหลังสงครามโลกครั้งสอง สหรัฐอเมริกาก็ได้เข้ามามีบทบาทต่อโยโกฮาม่าในรูปของฐานทัพและเชียงใหม่ในรูปของมหาวิทยาลัยซึ่งส่งผลกับการวางแผนพัฒนาเมืองมาถึงปัจจุบัน ประวัติศาสตร์เหล่านี้ทิ้งร่องรอยไว้กับตัวเมืองในหลากหลายมิติ แต่ยิ่งใกล้ตัวเท่าไหร่ เราก็ยิ่งมองเห็นมันไม่ชัด เรื่องราวการเกิดขึ้นของสถาปัตยกรรมและชุมชนต่างๆ จะถูกเก็บไว้เป็นมรดกให้เราได้รู้จักความเป็นมาของเมืองตัวเองได้อย่างไรบ้าง?

ระหว่างที่เมืองเชียงใหม่กำลังขับเคลื่อนสู่การเป็นมรดกโลก Asian Culture Station อยากชวนคุณมาทำความเข้าใจวิธีคิดในการอนุรักษ์เมืองในปัจจุบันของทั้งสองเมือง โดยเฉพาะในแง่มุมทางสถาปัตยกรรมกับแขกรับเชิญที่ทำงานทางด้านนี้ให้กับทั้งสองเมือง ทซึเนโอะ โนดะ สถาปนิกนักฟื้นฟูชีวิตของอาคารและทำงานในแผนกการออกแบบเมืองของสำนักพัฒนาเมือง นครโยโกฮาม่า กับ คมสัน ธีรภาพวงศ์ อาจารย์คณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ และนักวิจัยในคณะทำงานขับเคลื่อน เชียงใหม่สู่มรดกโลก พวกเขาจะมาเล่าถึงการต่อรองระหว่างสิ่งเก่าและสิ่งใหม่ให้ยังอยู่ด้วยกันได้ในวิถีชีวิตปัจจุบันอย่างสวยงาม

■ เกี่ยวกับผู้บรรยาย

ทซึเนโอะ โนดะ
เกิดที่เกียวโต เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1981 ปัจจุบันใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในกรุงโตเกียวและทำงานอยู่ในนครโยโกฮาม่ากับนครฟุกุโอกะ เขาจบการศึกษาจากภาควิชาสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ (ในแล็บของสถาปนิก มาซาโอะ โคอิซุมิ) คณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยนครโตเกียว แล้วได้ไปทำงานอยู่กับ Shigeru Aoki Architect & Associates Inc. จนต่อมาในปี ค.ศ. 2005 เขาได้ตั้งองค์กรของตัวเองในนาม no.d+a กับ TRAVELERS PROJECT ที่ฟุกุโอกะ และตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 2014 เป็นต้นมาเขาได้ไปทำงานเป็นผู้ออกแบบเมืองให้กับเทศบาลนครโยโกฮาม่าด้วย เขายังเคยเป็นผู้ร่วมอภิปรายในงาน Creative City International Conference 2009 ในโยโกฮาม่า และผู้บรรยายในงาน Working-level Conference for Asia Pacific City Summit ที่ฟุกุโอกะ ทั้งยังได้รับรางวัล Fukuoka Urban Beautification Award 2010 กับ The 11st Hosei University Innovative Policy Award 2013 อีกด้วย

ผศ. คมสัน ธีรภาพวงศ์
อาจารย์ประจำคณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ จบการศึกษาสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์จากจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัยและได้ศึกษาต่อในเรื่องของสถาปัตยกรรม เมือง และการออกแบบชุมชน (Urban Design & Architecture) จาก Columbia University กรุงนิวยอร์ค และที่ Architectural Association ในลอนดอน เชี่ยวชาญและสนใจในประเด็นของพัฒนาการเมืองและการสานต่อเมืองเก่า-ใหม่ที่มีผลต่ออัตลักษณ์เมืองในปัจจุบัน และประเด็นของความเป็น ‘ถิ่นที่’ นอกจากนี้ ผศ. คมสัน ยังทำงานในหลายภาคส่วนของการส่งเสริม สร้างองค์ความรู้ ความเข้าใจ ในการออกแบบพัฒนาย่าน ชุมชนและเมืองที่มีรากประวัติศาสตร์ โดยเฉพาะเมืองเชียงใหม่และเมืองในเอเชีย

Cities as Our Heritage: Yokohama & Chiang Mai
A mini talk by Tsuneo Noda & Komson Teeraparbwong

At Asian Culture Station, Nimmanhaemin Road, Chiang Mai

It is difficult to preserve the buildings for conservation to cover all the feelings, especially with the cities with cultural diversity and rich history. More than a hundred years ago, Yokohama and Chiang Mai were influenced by colonialism at about the same time. Both cities became the gateway for the foreign visitors which brought modern technologies to own countries. After World War II ended, the United States expanded its influence in Yokohama and Chiang Mai as the establishment of military base in Yokohama and Chiang Mai University, which have impacted on urban development planning in the present time. These histories have left traces on the cities in various dimensions. But the closer we get, the more we see it blurred. How will the emergence of architecture and communities be preserved as the heritage for us to learn the history of our cities?

While Chiang Mai is in the Tentative List for consideration as a World Cultural Heritage City, Asian Culture Station would like to introduce you the concept of how to conserve urbanization of the two cities in the present, especially in architectural aspect, with the guests who works for these two cities. The first one is Tsuneo Noda, an architect specializing in building renovation and working in Urban Design Division of Urban Development Bureau, Yokohama City. The second is Komson Teeraparbwong, a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University and researcher working in the Chiang Mai World Heritage - Initiative Project. They will talk about how to negotiate between the old and the new to get along together in today’s way of life, harmoniously.

■ About the Speakers

Tsuneo Noda
Born in 1981 in Kyoto. Works in Yokohama & Fukuoka. Lives in Tokyo.
First grade architect. Urban designer of Yokohama city / Representative of no.d+a and TRAVELERS PROJECT.
Graduated from Department of Architecture (architect Masao Koizumi lab.), Faculty of Engineering, Tokyo Metropolitan University. After working for Shigeru Aoki Architect & Associates, established no.d+a and TRAVELERS PROJECT in 2005 at Fukuoka. From 2014 working as an urban designer of Yokohama city government.
Panelist of Creative City International Conference 2009 in Yokohama, Speaker of Working-level Conference for Asia Pacific City Summit in Fukuoka.
Fukuoka Urban Beautification Award 2010, The 11st Hosei University Innovative Policy Award 2013.

Asst.Prof. Komson Teeraparbwong
A lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University and subsequently studied in Urban Design & Architecture program, Columbia University, New York, and also graduated at Architectural Association, London. He specializes and is interested in urban development and continuation of old town into new town which impacts on the city’s identity in the present, and locality. In addition, Asst.Prof. Komson works in many sectors of promoting and building knowledge and understanding in design and development of urban neighborhoods and cities with historical roots, especially Chiang Mai and Asian cities.
